In February 2024, the Crows Nest Branch of the Heritage Bank (in conjunction with the Progressive Community Crows Nest, PCCN) provided a grant of $35000 to the Crows Nest Bowls Club. Committed to providing a safe sporting environment for our community visitors, members and school children where they are welcome to train, play or simply spectate – is a paramount objective of the club management group. Grant funds (provided for our “Focus on Safety” Project) made it possible for the club to undertake these much-needed improvements …
- Upgrading the safety and pedestrian usability of partially grassed areas at the front and side fences. Concreting of these spaces has: smoothed the uneven ground; mitigated any mobility concerns for our elderly players and spectators; eliminated trip hazards; and converted the area into a safe and aesthetically appealing club feature.
- The former shade system positioned parallel to the highway front fence of the green was aging and had become essentially inoperable, particularly by our elderly members and visiting school students. Protecting our community visitors and members from the harmful rays of the Queensland sun is important. The modern replacement shade system is not only an attractive solution to create much-needed extra shade for our outdoor area, but also provides some shelter from light rain during play.
Provision of grant funds has enabled the Crows Nest Bowls Club to pursue its short, mid and long term goals such as …
- providing the safest and best possible standard of playing facilities for players in accordance with the Laws of the Game prescribed by the World Bowls Board and the By-Laws of Bowls Australia;
- affording a fun, healthy and safe playing environment for the local community, our members, visiting competitors and occasional local school students who include lawn bowls in their curriculum; and
- reinforcing our long-standing goal to offer the people of Crows Nest an attractive and social sporting facility built on inclusivity, friendship and well-being; and keeping abreast of other modern facilities associated with most lawn bowls clubs across the Darling Downs and further afield.
